Why would my new Cuckoo clock do this?
Needs to be cleaned. Even though it's new it sounds to me like the clock needs some TLC. Call in a clock guy or take it back to where you bought it. Any warranty on the clock?? Should be at least a year.
Going bird-brained in Bangkok
There was a report that birds in London and other big cities are going tone-deaf because of the roar of traffic. Apparently the blackbirds, robins and blue tits are in danger of suffering nervous breakdowns because of the racket.
It makes you wonder how birds survive in Bangkok. Some might say they don't. Certainly many have fled the scene for somewhere a bit quieter, and you can't blame them.
I can't imagine there are too many birds in the Ratchaprasong area these days unless they belong to the Red-shirted Clapper species.
However, I am fortunate enough to wake up every morning to the sound of birdsong, with assorted feathered friends twittering about in our small garden. It certainly beats my previous abode where you were more likely to be woken up by the loudspeakers of vendors in pick-ups or passing cement trucks on their way to feed the latest condominium.
I had some relatives from England over at the house a few weeks ago and they expressed surprise at the number of birds they saw or heard at our residence.

The Twitwee Clock is a modified Cuckoo Clock that wirelessly connects to the internet and constantly checks for new status updates or search results from the Twitter API. New Tweets are displayed on the built-in display in near-realtime accompanied by the charming yet obtrusive call of a mechanical cuckoo poping out of the clock.
The clock could monitor any twitter stream or search, so it could for example inform the user about new tweets in his personal timeline. In exhibition context however it is configured to react on self-referenced tweets. If “TwitweeClock” is mentioned in any tweet, the tweet is displayed on the built in screen and the cuckoo mechanism is triggered.
Thereby the observer has the possibility to interact with the clock by sending a tweet with the word TwitweeClock , the hashtag #TwitweeClock , or the username @TwitweeClock .
